Within the past few months–more so now than before, God has been opening my eyes to the ungodliness of most television shows. It’s nothing new, the world has been progressively spiraling down the sewer drain for over half a century with less respect, honor, praise, and love for Christianity. One does not have to look any further than the TV in their own homes for proof. We are to blame for allowing Satan another easy avenue to influence our daily thoughts and actions. A few years ago, I accidentally viewed part of the very popular “Sex In the City” and was shocked at its vulgarity. My husband and I would refer to the show as, “Sluts In the City”.
I know I’m not bringing any thing to your attention that you aren’t already aware of… I know for the most part, I’m “preaching to the choir”. Still, I’m disgusted by what is on TV. It’s a rare program that I don’t hear a curse word “beeped” out, and yet, so many other words that we were taught years ago to be offensive, are spoken with ease. In fact, those who appear on TV seem to delight in the audience’s laughter when using profane words. Sexual innuendos are no longer innuendos, they are blatant and shocking to those whose eyes and hearts have been opened to the truth of Christ. Obviously, I could turn off the TV, or change the channel, or walk away, and I do; if it were up to me, there probably would not be a television on our house. If we proclaim to be a Christian, then who deserves our allegiance? “You unfaithful, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” James 4:4
For years, I have said the young person on “Two and One-Half Men” (the “half”) should not be speaking the lines he was speaking. I’ve felt that his real-life parents shouldn’t even let him be on that show–I’ve thought, “how could parents let their child be a part of this filth?” The show has been nothing more than a on-going record of sexual conquests by (the then main character) Charlie Sheen, and I believe the on-screen character who plays his brother (who was once quite moral) has also been corrupted and hops in and out of bed with a never-ending pool of willing females.
And so, it was with great joy that I shouted, “I love it”! when I read on the Internet yesterday that Angus T. Jones who plays the young man on “Two and One-Half Men” stepped forward and took a stand for Christ, saying that his own show was “filth” and encouraged people not to watch it. It seems that Angus attended Christian school while growing up (although I wonder what’s up with parents who allowed him to participate in such a worldly show for years) and now, since he has been reading the Bible more closely, God has opened his eyes to the immorality of the show. I was so excited to hear this news… surely more Closet Christians in Hollywood would be stepping out in faith, ready to suffer the consequences of aligning themselves with Christ. We shall see.
But not so fast… seems that of today, Angus is apologizing to his co-workers. I hope he’s not apologizing for his beliefs and bowing to the ridicule and pressure that I’ve already seen on the Internet. To watch a video of Angus’ stand on God, please check out this link. It is just under 15 minutes and a bit rambling at times, but I believe his convictions are sincere. http://social.entertainment.msn.com/tv/blogs/tv-buzz-blog.aspx?blog=2080&feat=2940c849-0996-40df-a156-ffe76cfe9adb
In the days to come–within the Hollywood community and the World, we shall see what the fall-out will be from this issue. Just a small issue in the scope of things, but a huge issue for God. I am praying that God gives Angus the strength to face this battle which is in reality, a battle with Satan. Angus has stepped out in faith and immediately the unbelievers and ungodly of this universe are on the attack. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
Encouragement, fellow believers… recognize evil for what it is… an affront to God, to Christ who sacrificed His life for us that we would seize control and claim the power He gave to live in joy and victory over sin.
